How to study at Cincinnati State: admission, tuition, English and locations

A practical guide to applying, estimating tuition, finding financial aid, studying English and choosing among Cincinnati State locations.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College began as Cincinnati Technical Institute in 1969. It now serves Greater Cincinnati through four locations, more than 170 degree and certificate programs, workforce training and online courses. The locations offer different things: Clifton is the main academic campus, Middletown sits inside Miami University Regionals, Evendale specializes in workforce education, and Harrison hosts much of the aviation maintenance program.

Who can apply, and what does admission require?

The college describes its general admission policy as open access. A prospective degree or certificate student submits the online application and official high-school and, when relevant, college transcripts. A high-school diploma or GED/high-school-equivalency credential establishes general eligibility. Health and Public Safety programs and some other majors use selective admission and may require additional courses, tests or steps. Begin about two months before the intended term so records, advising, placement and aid have time to process.

Start with the admissions page, then check the 2026–27 catalog for program-specific rules. The tuition page lists a one-time $15 admission application fee payable at first registration, while the academic catalog says there is no charge when the application itself is submitted. Confirm how the fee applies to your student type and first bill before budgeting.

Tuition per credit and other costs

For academic year 2026–27, Cincinnati State lists tuition at $208 per credit hour for in-state students and $416 for out-of-state students. Residents of Kentucky and Indiana may qualify for the Ohio in-state rate under reciprocity agreements; eligibility depends on the agreement and program. These figures include instructional, general and other non-instructional service fees, but books, supplies, lab charges and special program costs can add to the bill.

Other published charges include a $7-per-credit career-services fee, a facility fee of $9 per credit up to $82.50 per semester, a $9 registration fee each semester and a $37.50 technology fee each semester. Standard lab charges are $35 per lab contact hour; certain health, culinary, aviation and technical labs have special $50 rates. Online courses add $10 per credit. Clifton parking is $5 per day or $75 per semester. Compare your schedule and program with the current tuition and fee schedule; a simple tuition average can understate the true cost.

Degrees, certificates, credits and time to finish

The college organizes credit programs in Business Technologies; Engineering and Information Technologies; Health and Public Safety; and Humanities and Sciences. Its catalog lists associate degrees, certificates and bachelor’s pathways, along with transfer and cooperative-education options. Program length depends on required credits and course sequence. Cincinnati State says full-time students can complete many associate programs in two years or less, but prerequisites, selective admission, part-time schedules and course availability can extend that timeline.

Before enrolling, open the program curriculum and count required credits, labs and co-op experience. A certificate may take less time but is not necessarily a substitute for an associate degree. Students planning to transfer should ask which credits fit their intended bachelor’s program and consult transfer advising before registering. The academic catalog confirms the credential, course sequence and program rules.

Financial aid and scholarships

To request federal and state aid, file the FAFSA and use Cincinnati State’s federal school code, 010345. For Spring 2027, the college lists December 1, 2026 as the priority FAFSA date, December 15 for required documents and December 20 for aid offers when a file is complete by the priority date. Students who miss a priority date should still apply; some funds are limited and processed in order. Federal aid generally requires citizenship or eligible status, a high-school credential, enrollment in an eligible degree or certificate, financial need where applicable and satisfactory academic progress.

Institutional and Foundation scholarships use a separate application. The college says its annual application opens November 1 and closes February 15, with awards depending on merit, need and other criteria. FAFSA completion is the first step. A CCP Presidential Scholarship is available to qualifying College Credit Plus graduates who meet credit and grade requirements and continue immediately after high school. Review the scholarship requirements before expecting an award to cover a particular term or program.

English study before and during college

People still building English skills have two routes. Free community ESL classes meet at Clifton and welcome community members without tuition or formal registration; during the semester the college lists beginner and intermediate groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They practice practical speaking, listening, reading and writing, but do not award academic transcript credit.

Current students can take credit-bearing ESL 051 and ESL 052, 15-week courses in intermediate reading, writing, listening and speaking. Admission is required before registration, and tuition and usually a textbook cost apply. The college says these courses meet in person at Clifton and are not currently online. Use the ESL page to confirm the current room and schedule; students pursuing a degree should ask advising how placement and prerequisites fit their program.

What each location is for

Clifton is the starting point for most applicants: it houses most classes, enrollment offices, library and student support, culinary and health facilities, technology labs and fitness resources. Bus routes serve the campus, while parking is paid. Middletown offers Cincinnati State courses and advising inside Miami University Regionals, with access to selected university resources; the term schedule determines which classes meet there.

Evendale’s Workforce Development Center focuses on shorter job training, employer-designed instruction and hands-on labs in advanced manufacturing, health technology, industrial maintenance and emergency response. Its new-student information says parking is free. Harrison, at Cincinnati West Airport, hosts much of Aviation Maintenance Technology’s practical instruction and is reached from I-74. Use the linked profiles below to compare each location’s address, focus and services before traveling.

How to choose a starting point

First decide whether you want a credit-bearing degree, shorter certificate, English instruction or workforce training. Then compare required credits, schedule, total charges and where classes meet. Students with limited English can begin community ESL while separately asking admissions about academic placement and future credit courses. Do not assume a program is offered at all four locations.

Use the college’s application and enrollment resources, and contact the program when a selective major, aviation lab or workforce class has extra requirements. A current course search and an advisor can confirm the details before you pay charges or arrange transportation.

Bottom line

Check current details and choose according to your budget, time and way of travelling.
