El Paso Community College (EPCC) serves a broad border community through five teaching campuses and additional education and workforce-service locations. Its story began when El Paso County voters established a junior-college district in 1969; first classes followed in 1971 with 901 students. Today the college offers associate degrees, certificates, English-language pathways, career training and continuing education across the city. The choice of campus matters: Valle Verde handles the largest share of central student services, health labs are concentrated at Rio Grande, Mission Del Paso serves the east, Northwest the far west, and Transmountain the northeast.
Programs, credits and time to graduate
EPCC’s 2026–27 catalog lists associate degrees in arts, teaching, science and applied science. Most require at least 60 semester credit hours and are designed for about two years of full-time study; actual time depends on placement, prerequisites, course availability and whether a student attends part-time. Level 1 certificates range from 15 to 42 credits and may take a year or less, while Level 2 certificates require 30 to 51 credits and can have entry requirements. Applied-science degrees prepare students for particular careers, while arts, teaching and science degrees are commonly planned for transfer. EPCC publishes program maps by major; compare the required courses and semester sequence with an adviser before choosing a campus or estimating your graduation date.
How to apply and get ready for classes
New students begin through ApplyTexas, then arrange for official high-school, GED or previous-college transcripts to be sent directly to EPCC. The enrollment checklist calls for placement testing before New Student Orientation, academic advising and registration. Texas requires proof of bacterial-meningitis vaccination for entering students under 22 unless an exemption applies. Transfers should have previous coursework reviewed, and health-care or other selective programs can set separate prerequisites, deadlines and ranking rules. Start with EPCC’s enrollment checklist and use the program’s own application page for a specialized major.
Tuition, aid and scholarships
EPCC’s 2026–27 catalog lists resident tuition at $116 per credit hour and nonresident tuition at $201 per credit hour; the college’s current homepage advertises $1,632 as low-cost full-time tuition. Residency classification affects the bill, and course, lab, online or professional fees can change the total. Rates and charges may be revised, so compare your schedule in the current term’s tuition worksheet before registering. Federal aid starts with FAFSA using EPCC school code 010387; Texas residents who cannot use FAFSA may be directed to TASFA. The general scholarship application is normally available January 1 through March 31, while separate awards can have different requirements and deadlines. Review financial-aid steps and current scholarships before relying on an award in your budget.
English support: credit and noncredit routes
EPCC distinguishes English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), which offers credit courses for students pursuing a degree, from the Language Institute’s noncredit English programs. Students who need language placement should ask about the Accuplacer ESL assessment; testing helps advisers identify an appropriate starting level, and advanced learners may move into credit academic work. EPCC has English and reading labs at several campuses, including Valle Verde, Mission Del Paso, Northwest and Rio Grande. A recent student story describes the college’s ESL Bridge pathway into an associate degree, but learners should ask which bridge cohorts are open in the current term and whether the intended career accepts the courses. Compare EPCC’s English pathways before choosing between a credit course and a noncredit class.
Find the campus that fits the program
Valle Verde, at 919 Hunter Drive, is the broadest starting point for enrollment support. It houses the Advanced Technology Center, Americana Language Program, athletics, libraries, child care and English-language laboratories. Rio Grande, downtown at 100 West Rio Grande Avenue, has health-science simulation and career labs, including training connected to EMT, phlebotomy, radiography and echocardiography; it also has a multilevel parking garage.
Mission Del Paso at 10700 Gateway East serves Mission Valley and the far east, with a Law Enforcement Training Academy, ESL and reading labs, tutoring and an early-college high school. Northwest, at 6701 South Desert Boulevard, serves the west side and pairs academic and technical programs with a community-library partnership. Transmountain at 9570 Gateway Boulevard North serves the northeast; it has full student services, a library, bookstore, child care and EPCC’s performance and lecture facility.
The Administrative Services Center at 9050 Viscount Boulevard combines administrative offices with Culinary Arts, cosmetology, massage therapy, tourism, GED, workforce training, continuing education, literacy and senior-adult programs. At Fort Bliss, EPCC staff help military students with course locations, enrollment and tuition assistance. The college lists its staff at Building 641 on Taylor Road, while the Fort Bliss Education Center has a separate contact address; confirm the right office and base-access requirements before visiting. This network gives students local choices, but a campus name alone does not guarantee that every course in a major meets there. Confirm the current class schedule, program map and advising appointment, then use the location profile’s directions link to plan the trip.
Check current details and choose according to your budget, time and way of travelling.
