Nineteen Hyaku
On Broadway, a contemporary Japanese restaurant where nigiri and sashimi share the menu with grilled skewers, karaage and an extensive roll selection.
About Nineteen Hyaku
Nineteen Hyaku brings several styles of contemporary Japanese dining together on Broadway in San Antonio. Nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls and a substantial makimono selection sit alongside skewers and cooked small plates. That breadth is the restaurant’s most useful feature for a group: diners can share an interest in Japanese food while choosing quite different meals from the same menu.
Kampachi Zu pairs fish with Asian pear, yuzu tobiko and bird’s-eye chili; the preparation suggests a different direction from a simple sashimi selection. On the hot side, chicken karaage and pork-and-shrimp shumai broaden the meal, while skewers include chicken, pork belly and mushrooms. Chef’s-choice nigiri and sashimi selections offer a more focused route for a diner who wants fish to remain the center of attention. These formats coexist on the regular menu, rather than requiring everyone to buy into a fixed tasting experience.
The drinks list also gives sake a defined place, alongside cocktails and wine. A table can therefore organize dinner around seafood and sake or mix raw preparations with the more substantial cooked dishes. For a first visit, choosing that direction early helps the large menu remain manageable. Nineteen Hyaku is particularly relevant when the occasion calls for shared ordering and varied preferences; its Japanese references extend across the sushi bar and grill, with enough flexibility to build a meal around the people at the table.
