What Japanese consular services are handled in Copenhagen, and is an appointment needed?

Japan’s Copenhagen consular guide: services, jurisdiction, walk-in hours, visa documents and access to the ninth floor.

The Embassy of Japan in Copenhagen handles consular matters for Japanese nationals in Denmark and Japanese visa applications assigned to residents there. Its district also includes the Faroe Islands and Greenland. This is not a separate consulate-general: the public counter is inside the Embassy on the ninth floor of Havneholmen 25.

The official homepage says consular services do not require an appointment, unlike the systems in Stockholm and Helsinki. The counter is open weekdays, 9:00 a.m.–noon and 1:30–4:00 p.m., except official closures. Walk-in access does not waive procedure-specific requirements: visa applications must be made in person with printed papers.

Services include passports, certificates, overseas residence registration, family and nationality matters, overseas voting, visas and safety guidance. Japanese nationals planning to live abroad for more than three months must file an ORR notice; ORR Net handles new registrations and changes. Visa applicants need a passport, a 45 × 35 mm photo taken within six months, an official form and evidence of travel purpose. Applications are generally filed no earlier than three months before departure, with separate Working Holiday rules.

The address is Havneholmen 25, ninth floor, 1561 Copenhagen V; phone +45 33 11 33 44. The Embassy estimates a five-minute walk from Dybbølsbro via Fisketorvet and a pedestrian bridge. Use the entrance intercom and give your name so reception can open the door and enable the lift. Embassy office hours differ from the shorter Consular Section schedule.
