Japan’s Embassy in Azerbaijan continues consular work in Baku, but the current location matters. From 7 July 2026 until further notice, the counter operates from a temporary office at Globus Center. The Embassy’s homepage says its usual office is temporarily closed, so the former Izmir Street address is not the place to plan a consular visit.

The temporary office is on the fifth floor of Globus Center, 609 Jafar Jabbarli Street, Yasamal District, Baku AZ1065. Visitors must enter through the first-floor lobby, explain their purpose to security staff, and be escorted upstairs and back to the exit. Paid underground parking is available, but visitors are still asked to use the lobby entrance.

The general consular counter runs Tuesday to Friday, 09:00–13:00 and 14:15–17:45, excluding holidays. Visa applications are accepted 09:30–12:30 and visas are collected 15:00–17:00. The notice requires an appointment for every application; Japanese nationals requiring urgent assistance are exempt from that rule.

For a Japanese visa, the Embassy publishes document checklists by nationality and purpose. Since 7 July, applicants must leave the original passport with the Embassy during processing and return during the collection window. Plan around that change if another trip requires the document. Confirm the current checklist before assembling forms, photos and evidence of itinerary or funding.

The Embassy also lists services for Japanese nationals, including passports, certificates and consular enquiries, each with its own requirements at the temporary office. Email consular@bk.mofa.go.jp with nationality, procedure and deadline, then request an appointment and confirm which originals to bring. Official directory telephone numbers are +994 12 490 78 18 and +994 12 490 78 19.

The Embassy identifies Katsuya Watanabe as its ambassador. We leave Google rating and review-count fields blank: the figures located appeared to relate to the former address and could not be attributed to Globus Center. Confirm the temporary location remains in effect and do not arrive without an appointment unless you are a Japanese national seeking urgent assistance.
