The Mt. Kinka Ropeway links Gifu Park with the mountain above the Nagara River, carrying visitors to the summit in about four minutes. On a clear ride, the wooded slope opens toward the river plain and the city; at the top, visitors can reach the mountain’s viewing areas and facilities. The cable car is therefore still a meaningful way to experience Kinka-zan even while the castle museum is closed for seismic work and exhibition renewal from 19 May 2026 until the end of October 2027, provisionally.

The official fare page lists a round trip at ¥1,300 for adults and ¥650 for children, with one-way tickets also available. The municipal tourism page describes the ascent as roughly four minutes and says the service schedule can vary; maintenance and weather can affect operations. This is not a ticket into Gifu Castle: the keep and castle museum are closed during the renovation period. Confirm the ropeway’s own notice for the day, and avoid assuming that the observation facilities have the same hours as the lower station.

Visitors’ public comments often single out the quick ascent and the broad view from the cabin; other reviews warn that queues can form on busy dates and that the final walk from the upper station includes steps. The ropeway is the right choice for a low-effort mountain visit, not for someone whose main purpose is entering the castle. Those hoping for a longer hike should check which paths are open, since the city has separately announced temporary closures on part of the Meisō-no-Komichi route.
