About Gifu Mt. Kinka Ropeway

The Mt. Kinka Ropeway links Gifu Park with the mountain above the Nagara River, carrying visitors to the summit in about four minutes. During a clear ride, the wooded slope opens toward the river plain and the city; at the top, visitors can reach mountain viewpoints and facilities. The cable car remains a meaningful way to experience Kinka-zan even while Gifu Castle’s museum is closed for seismic work and exhibition renewal from 19 May 2026 until the end of October 2027, provisionally.

The official fare page lists a round trip at ¥1,300 for adults and ¥650 for children; one-way tickets are also available. The municipal tourism page describes the ride as roughly four minutes and notes that schedules vary. Maintenance and weather can affect service. This is not a ticket into Gifu Castle: the keep and museum are closed during the renovation. Check the ropeway’s own notice for the day, and do not assume that summit facilities keep the same hours as the lower station.

Public visitor comments often mention the quick ascent and wide views from the cabin; other reviews warn that queues can form on busy dates and that the final walk from the upper station includes steps. The ropeway suits a low-effort mountain outing, not a visit whose main purpose is entering the castle. Travellers hoping to hike should also check which paths are open, as the city has separately announced temporary closures on part of the Meisō-no-Komichi route.
