A food truck that outgrew its first dining room

Tacos TJ 664 began with a truck outside an apartment complex in Wichita’s Riverside area. A small West Street restaurant followed, then a move to 1014 North West Street in 2021 gave the business a larger kitchen, more seating and a patio. An east-side restaurant opened on North Rock Road in 2022. The growth explains why older recommendations may still point to the former 803 North West Street address.

The menu’s Tijuana identity shows in asada made with prime steak and preparations that add beans, guacamole or grilled cactus to selected tacos. Spicy shrimp and choriqueso provide richer alternatives to a straightforward meat-and-onion order. Vampiros move toward a crisp tortilla and cheese, while mulitas sandwich filling between tortillas. Birria tacos, consomé and birria ramen make broth part of the meal.

Local reporting has repeatedly singled out shrimp tacos and the asada preparations, and recent public comments continue to appreciate those choices, the birria and the substantial bacon-wrapped burrito. Portions and menu formats are larger than a simple list of small street tacos might suggest. Someone wanting to compare fillings can begin with individual tacos instead of committing to a loaded burrito.
