Fiorella

Marc Vetri’s Italian Market pasta bar preserves a former sausage-shop storefront while offering à la carte dining and a separate upstairs Pasta Club.

About Fiorella

Fiorella preserves a piece of Italian Market history through a pasta bar. Luigi Fiorella opened the original storefront in 1892, and the family’s sausage business became part of the neighborhood’s identity. When Marc Vetri took over the building for his restaurant, the family agreed that the name could continue. Much of the intimate storefront was restored, including a substantial brass cash register that remains part of the space. The result gives the meal a connection to South Philadelphia’s food history without turning the restaurant into a museum.

Pasta is the center of the present-day kitchen. Rigatoni with Fiorella sausage ragù provides the most direct link between the former business and the current menu. Other preparations move in different directions: ricotta gnocchi with fig and brown butter, cappelletti with mortadella and pistachio, or tonnarelli cacio e pepe. The selection changes, but the method of choosing can stay simple. A table interested in contrasting textures and sauces can pair a filled pasta with a shorter shape, then use an antipasto to add vegetables or seafood. The focus helps diners give each bowl attention rather than treating pasta as a preliminary course.

Fiorella offers two distinct dining arrangements. The main level provides à la carte meals around the chef’s counter and small tables, with a weather-dependent outdoor option. Upstairs, the Pasta Club follows a set tasting menu, with beverages ordered separately and an optional wine pairing. Choosing the appropriate experience matters because an upstairs reservation does not offer the same freedom to order individual dishes. Fiorella suits a meal organized around pasta, local history and a compact dining space. The upstairs experience gives that idea a more structured sequence; the main room keeps the choice in the diner’s hands.
