About Taquería Morelos Newark

An Ironbound counter with a broad taco vocabulary

Morelos places handmade tortillas at the center of its Lafayette Street kitchen. Its taco list makes room for cuts often absent from a short Americanized menu: lengua, cecina, cueritos and pork ear sit beside steak, chicken, carnitas and longaniza. The choice is as much about texture as heat, from cured beef to pork skin.

Pastor combines adobo-seasoned pork and pineapple. The beef campechano mixes steak with Mexican sausage, while the mixed taco offers another way to combine fillings. Birria has become one of the restaurant’s highlighted orders; steak tacos and shrimp quesadillas appear beside it in the business’s current popular-items display.

The corn quesadilla uses a homemade tortilla and a chosen meat. Tinga, vegetarian and quesabirria versions add alternatives, while sopes, tostadas and huaraches change the shape of the masa. Grilled cactus, baby onions and sautéed jalapeños can be ordered separately to build a fuller spread.

For a larger meal, the molcajete gathers chicken, spicy pork, sausage, cecina and shrimp with cheese, cactus and onions. Pork-and-hominy pozole, red-chili pancita and beef soup give the menu a substantial broth section. A torta cubana combines breaded chicken, ham and sausage; other tortas keep a single filling.
