About Masa NYC
Masa NYC, fine Japanese dining at Columbus Circle
Masa NYC is a culinary destination led by Chef Masayoshi Takayama, located on the fourth floor of The Shops at Columbus Circle, at 10 Columbus Circle, New York. The restaurant presents itself as a space where Japanese tradition meets modern artistry, with a central focus on precision and detail in every preparation.
The philosophy of shibui
The restaurant's approach is built around the Japanese concept of shibui, understood as a refined beauty that does not depend on time or social change. According to the establishment's own description, shibui is neither complicated nor contrived: purity of being, of living, and of sensing is present in every element of the Masa experience.
That idea translates into concrete gestures: every act of slicing, shaving, and sprinkling respects the natural distinctiveness of the ingredients. Dishes are prepared quickly and served as soon as they are ready, to preserve the idea that each preparation is in a living state.
The space and the service
The sushi counter is made from a single solid piece of hinoki wood and is sanded daily to a soft, porous texture, designed to provide visual and tactile satisfaction. Seasonal branches are arranged each day to highlight natural imperfections, offering different perspectives from every angle. The deliberately minimalist decor serves as a blank canvas that leaves space for the food to stand out.
The omakase experience
Chef Masayoshi Takayama combines traditional Japanese techniques with modern artistry to create an immersive, highly elevated omakase experience. The courses are built on seasonal ingredients, offered only in their freshest state, and each dish is composed to preserve the innate character of every ingredient.
