About Cinco de Mayo New Brunswick

A French Street kitchen since 2001

Fernando Luna and Guillermina Mozo, both from Oaxaca, have run Cinco de Mayo since 2001. Their French Street restaurant has its own parking area and a menu that moves between familiar tacos and more substantial regional preparations. The choices reward looking past the first line of grilled chicken and steak.

Goat appears in three-piece birria taco orders and in a barbacoa plate with mole or green sauce. The taco placero is a different construction: a handmade tortilla carries rice, fries, boiled egg, a grilled jalapeño and the selected meat. Árabe tacos pair pork and pineapple with chipotle; pastor with cactus and choriqueso give a mixed taco order additional directions.

For other cuts, the regular taco list includes lengua, tripa, cabeza and carnitas. Undated customer accounts especially praise the tender tripa, the carnitas’ crisp edges and chicken in Oaxacan mole. Those observations help identify dishes worth considering, without turning individual experiences into a promise about every order.

The burrito section has its own local character. An Oaxaqueño brings mole and cheese, while the Rutgers combines rice, beans, spicy salsa, cilantro, onion and mozzarella. Huaraches Oaxaqueños, picaditas, potato flautas and three-color enchiladas make the restaurant useful to a table that wants more than one type of antojito. Vegan tacos and vegetable preparations are separately listed.
