About El Quinto Sol
A vegetarian route across the border
El Quinto Sol's story begins with Juan and Finita Sanchez and the vegetarian cooking developed as El Nuevo Sol in Nuevo Laredo. The business established its Laredo location in 2012. On Jacaman Road, that background produces a Mexican menu with recognizable preparations built from plants, alongside eggs and dairy in many dishes.
There is enough variety to plan a taco meal around ingredients rather than a single meat substitute. The vegetarian pastor uses gluten, adobo, pineapple, mozzarella, cilantro and onion. Tacos a la Brasa combine smoked eggplant with hibiscus flowers; Ensenada tacos use crisp cauliflower with purple cabbage, pico and chipotle sauce. Mushroom tacos carry mozzarella, onion and cilantro. Those distinctions matter: a vegetarian menu is not automatically dairy-free, and the pastor's gluten is explicit.
Breakfast tacos allow two ingredients from beans, soy chorizo, potato, egg and cheese. For a fuller meal, three-taco plates add beans. Nopalitos in guajillo, soy preparations and a separate vegan-sopes option extend the choice beyond breakfast. The kitchen also prepares mushroom pozole and pumpkin-seed-and-brown-rice albondigas. These dishes offer a way to share a Mexican restaurant meal without making everyone order the same substitute.
Bakery, drinks and practical details
The bakery selection includes conchas, empanadas, cuernos and bolillos. Agua fresca combinations range from pineapple with parsley to lemonade with chia. Smoothies, juices, acai bowls and frozen yogurt make this a possible stop for a smaller meal as well; yogurt, honey and dairy remain ingredients to distinguish from the explicitly vegan items.
The restaurant is at 2330 Jacaman Road; call 956-795-1452. Published directory schedules generally extend into the evening, but a reliable complete current weekly schedule was not reconciled across the sources. The official menu provides a detailed starting point for a phone or pickup order. This profile therefore does not promise active direct delivery or present an ordering link as a functioning delivery service.
