About Yauatcha
Yauatcha: Cantonese dim sum and European patisserie in London and India
Yauatcha is a Cantonese restaurant that operates as a modern tea house and social space. Its offering combines dim sum, cocktails, a wide selection of teas and European patisserie. The concept is presented as an accessible fine dining experience, with a menu available throughout the day and with dim sum at its heart.
A menu with dim sum at its core
The menu is built around dim sum, with steamed, baked and fried options. Examples cited include scallop shui mai, prawn and beancurd cheung fun and venison puffs. The restaurant also offers duck, fish and noodle dishes. The selection is organised according to a culinary approach that distinguishes between core foods of the Cantonese diet — such as shu mai, har gau, cheung fun, venison puff, sticky rice in lotus leaf, chicken feet, char sui bun, taro croquette, pan-fried turnip cake and congee — and peripheral or seasonal preparations, which reflect personal preferences rather than cultural traditions.
Patisserie, mixology and tea
Patisserie is central to the concept: Yauatcha Patisserie offers petits gateaux, chocolates and macarons in various flavours, presented in bespoke signature packaging. The bar is inspired by heritage, tradition and cha (tea), with drinks that seek a sense of well-being and are garnished with meaning and harmony. The drinks menu includes over 24 types of tea from Taiwan, South Africa, Egypt, India, Japan, Paraguay and China, as well as a broad wine and Champagne list.
Two locations in London and a presence in India
Yauatcha has two restaurants in London. The first opened in the heart of Soho in 2004 and received numerous awards, including a Michelin star. Yauatcha City opened in May 2015 following the success of the Soho restaurant. The company also operates in India, with locations in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. The original design of the space, by Christian Liaigre, allows guests to see the kitchen and watch the preparation of the dishes.
A concept that combines tradition and innovation
The company presents itself as the first and only restaurant to combine Chinese dim sum and European patisserie, and states that it creates trends rather than following them. Its offering seeks to reflect the spirit of a contemporary tea house, with an open and cosmopolitan approach. The restaurant also offers musical experiences through its own playlists, under the name 'Sounds of Yauatcha'.
Services and house rules
The restaurant offers reservations, delivery, brunch menu, gift cards, gallery and a 360-degree virtual tour. For events and groups, it offers a dedicated private dining and events service. The dress code is smart casual: no hoods worn up, running trainers, hats or flip flops. The company has an allergen chart available to guests.
