Consular Section, Embassy of Japan in the UK

Passports, certificates, registrations and visa applications require an appointment; some overseas-voting and My Number services do not.

About Consular Section, Embassy of Japan in the UK

The Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in London handles passports, certificates, family-register matters, nationality, residence registration, overseas voting and Japanese visas. It does not replace the Consulate-General in Edinburgh: Scotland and several northern English districts are assigned to that post.

Online appointments are required for passports, certificates, registrations and visas. Selected overseas-voting, My Number and document-collection services allow walk-in visits before 4:00 p.m. The office lists specific exceptions, so check the category rather than assuming all services work the same way.

The address is 101–104 Piccadilly, W1J 7JT, near Green Park and Hyde Park Corner stations. Visitors must show photo ID and pass a security screening. There is no visitor parking.

The consular phone is +44 20 7465 6565 and the published email is inquiry-consulate@ld.mofa.go.jp. Hiroshi Suzuki is named as Ambassador on the institutional page. Residents of areas assigned to Edinburgh should contact that consulate-general.

Services listed by the office

  • Passports, certificates, family-register and nationality procedures, overseas residence registration and consular assistance for Japanese nationals.
  • Japanese visas for applicants resident in London’s district; applications and collections follow separate instructions and booking rules.
  • Overseas voting, selected My Number procedures and some document collections may be available without an appointment if you arrive before 4:00 p.m.
  • Safety information, traveller guidance and consular documentation. Scotland and specified northern English areas assigned to Edinburgh are outside London’s district.
In brief
