Restaurant Mýse is a dining and accommodation establishment located on Main Street, in the centre of Hovingham, between the village hall and the village shop, in North Yorkshire. It occupies a recently renovated 19th-century inn and combines a British tasting menu with en-suite rooms. The project is led by chef Joshua Overington and sommelier Victoria Overington.

The name Mýse comes from the Anglo-Saxon word for 'eating at the table'. The offering is built around the concepts of 'time and place': menus are defined by the ingredients and flavours available on each day, giving rise to a produce-driven style of cooking.

Produce-driven cooking and local producers

The kitchen team works with small-scale producers and farmers in Yorkshire and across the rest of the British Isles. Regenerative farming and sustainability are central to the way they work. The kitchen uses foraging, fermentation and infusion to create cocktails, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks that accompany the menu.

Locally reared meats are dry-aged and cured in-house, and homemade charcuterie is also produced. The tableware is handmade and exclusive to the restaurant, inspired by Victoria's family home on the Jurassic Coast.

Restaurant spaces and accommodation

The venue, a renovated 19th-century inn, offers several settings: a snug with a log fire for drinks, a dining room beneath soaring beams and large windows, and an open kitchen in view of diners. The establishment also has en-suite rooms for those who wish to stay overnight. The stated aim is to offer a fine-dining experience in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Reservations, gift vouchers and communications

Reservations and the purchase of gift vouchers are handled online. There is a specific form for booking with a gift voucher, which asks for full name, email, telephone, number of guests, preferred date and time, dietary requirements and the voucher code. New booking availability is released periodically on the calendar and announced exclusively through the newsletter.

Reservations can be cancelled or modified up to 72 hours before the reserved time; the establishment advises that it may be unable to accommodate changes notified with less notice.
