The Counter, refined international cuisine in Zurich

The Counter is a restaurant located at Bahnhofplatz 15, in Zurich, next to the main station. Its concept revolves around an international tasting menu that the house itself describes as honest and authentic, yet highly refined. The venue operates with a limited capacity of up to 23 guests, who can sit at the counter facing the kitchen team or at a private table.

Tasting menu and pairings

The main offering is a tasting menu served in two slots: dinner and Saturday lunch. The site's catalogue listed the following prices per guest, in Swiss francs and including 8.1% VAT:

• Tasting menu: 320 CHF at dinner and 220 CHF at Saturday lunch.
• Drinks pairing: 195 CHF at dinner and 115 CHF at Saturday lunch.
• Non-alcoholic pairing: 170 CHF at dinner and 95 CHF at Saturday lunch.

The restaurant also offers a wine list. For groups of four to six people, it recommends its private table, which can be reserved online.

Counter experience and private table

The venue's format brings guests closer to the team's work: from the counter, you can watch the chef and their team prepare each portion individually. The private table is designed for groups of up to six people. The restaurant presents itself as a space suitable both for those dining alone and for couples or small groups.

Team

The kitchen is led by chef Mitja Birlo. Reception and wine service are handled by Florentina Birlo, host and sommelier. In another version of the page, Matthias Moseler appears as host. The restaurant states that it is continuously looking for talent and accepts speculative applications by email.

Dietary options and reservations

The team offers vegetarian and pescatarian alternatives if requested at the time of booking. It does not accommodate other dietary restrictions, such as lactose-free or gluten-free requirements. For special reservations, the indicated channel is email. The restaurant also sells gift cards.

Opening hours and closure

Dinner service is offered from Wednesday to Saturday from 18:30. Lunch is served on Saturdays from 12:00. The page also announced a Sunday lunch between 15 November and 20 December 2026, also from 12:00, and a holiday closure from 21 December 2026 to 5 January 2027.
