About Consular Office of Japan in Geneva
Japan’s Geneva Consular Office serves Geneva, Vaud, Valais and Ticino. The Embassy in Bern covers the other Swiss cantons; Japanese residents of the neighbouring French departments of Ain and Haute-Savoie are directed to Lyon. The office says residents in France should ask in advance whether a particular service can be handled in Geneva.
Its Japanese-national service menu includes passports, certificates, family and nationality matters, residence registration, overseas voting, My Number, school textbooks and safety information. It also accepts Japanese visa applications within its district. The office does not process Swiss Working Holiday visas, and visa requirements depend on nationality, residence and travel purpose.
Counter visits require an appointment. Published hours are split between morning and afternoon, Monday to Friday, with holiday closures. Outreach services have separate notices, dates, capacity and procedure lists and should not be mistaken for a permanent walk-in counter.
The address is Rue de Lausanne 82, eighth floor. From Cornavin, visitors can walk about 15 minutes or take tram 15 to Butini. The entrance is inside the arcade and uses an intercom. The office publishes direct phone and email contacts; its 2026 greeting names Akiyuki Hagino as head.
