Wisconsin Talent Incentive Program: TIP grant for first-time students

Wisconsin TIP supports first-time students with financial need and educational barriers. College nomination is essential; do not confuse it with Michigan’s TIP program.

Wisconsin’s Talent Incentive Program (TIP) prioritizes first-time students with financial need and educational disadvantage. Initial awards are generally $600–$1,800; the state’s 2026–27 formula lists $250–$1,800 for continuing awards, subject to funding and calculation. This is not Michigan’s Tuition Incentive Program: the acronyms are similar, but administrators and rules differ.

A college must nominate the student; applying directly to HEAB is not enough. FAFSA, at least half-time enrollment, and financial-need and educational-disadvantage criteria apply. Campus staff and, in some cases, WEOP programs review the circumstances. Ask financial aid whether you can be nominated before assuming eligibility.

The grant may be renewed for up to ten semesters or six years if academic, financial, and enrollment requirements continue to be met. Awards vary by campus. Ask the college to explain your offer, minimum credits, and what happens if you transfer, stop attending, or receive other scholarships.

For 2026–27, complete FAFSA and contact campus aid and WEOP promptly: nominations and funding are limited, and no single statewide date replaces the campus process. The Wisconsin TIP profile and HEAB profile link to program details and current formulas.

Before budgeting, request a written offer separating tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, books, and transportation. State grants often reduce only eligible charges and may change after Pell or other scholarships are applied. Do not commit money based on a chart maximum.

Your campus office should confirm missing documents, institutional eligibility, and disbursement timing. The program profile expands on the criteria; the public-agency profile links to applications, deadlines, and official help.

Bottom line

Campus nomination is essential: ask about WEOP, credits, and renewal; do not confuse Wisconsin TIP with Michigan TIP.
