Ohio College Opportunity Grant 2026–27: eligibility, FAFSA, and sector awards

OCOG is Ohio need-based aid for eligible students within state SAI and income limits. FAFSA was due October 1; awards depend on institution type and may be zero.

Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG) is state need-based aid for Ohio students at eligible institutions. For 2026–27, the state limits review to a Student Aid Index (SAI) of 3,750 or less and certain household income up to $96,000. FAFSA is part of the process; residency alone does not trigger an award.

The grant may support a first associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or eligible nursing diploma, subject to residency and enrollment rules. Official award charts separate public universities, private institutions, and community colleges. Students with similar family circumstances can therefore see different amounts based on sector and campus.

The 2026–27 state table shows that many community colleges may have a $0 award under ordinary circumstances; specific exceptions include some foster-care students, veterans, or additional terms. A published maximum is not a promise. Find your exact campus and category and ask how Pell and other grants affect the calculation.

Ohio’s published FAFSA deadline was October 1, 2026, now past. File FAFSA if you have not—it may still support other aid—and ask your college whether late review is possible without assuming OCOG remains available. The OCOG profile and ODHE profile link to rules and award charts.

Before budgeting, request a written offer separating tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, books, and transportation. State grants often reduce only eligible charges and may change after Pell or other scholarships are applied. Do not commit money based on a chart maximum.

Your campus office should confirm missing documents, institutional eligibility, and disbursement timing. The program profile expands on the criteria; the public-agency profile links to applications, deadlines, and official help.

Bottom line

Check the chart for your exact campus: OCOG varies by sector and may be $0; the state FAFSA deadline has passed.
