Washington College Grant 2026–27: income limits, FAFSA or WASFA, and coverage

The WA Grant can help with college, career training, and some apprenticeships. For 2026–27, a family of four earning up to $139,500 may qualify for partial aid; calculations vary by household and program.

The Washington College Grant, also called WA Grant, is need-based state aid for Washington residents. It may apply at universities, community colleges, career-training programs, and some registered apprenticeships; there is no single amount for every pathway. The state calculates aid using income, household size, enrollment, and approved program cost.

For 2026–27, the official example for a four-person household places the full-award level up to $83,500 annual income and partial aid up to $139,500. Do not use those figures for other household sizes: the chart has separate rows and uses 2024 tax income reported on FAFSA or WASFA. An approved percentage does not mean every bill is paid in full.

Most students file FAFSA; people who should not use FAFSA may complete WASFA, depending on their situation. WSAC says residents with different immigration statuses may qualify through the appropriate state application. Verify that the institution, training program, or apprenticeship sponsor is approved; a private course is not automatically covered.

Maximum amounts differ by campus type and enrollment. Review WSAC’s estimator and chart, then compare them with your financial-aid offer: ask whether the grant applies to tuition, fees, or other education costs and when it posts. If you filed for 2026–27, check for verification tasks; if you did not, ask whether late options exist without assuming funding. Prepare FAFSA/WASFA for 2027–28 and check each college’s own priority date.

Before budgeting, request a written offer separating tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, books, and transportation. State grants often reduce only eligible charges and may change after Pell or other scholarships are applied. Do not commit money based on a chart maximum.

Your campus office should confirm missing documents, institutional eligibility, and disbursement timing. The program profile expands on the criteria; the public-agency profile links to applications, deadlines, and official help.

Bottom line

WA Grant combines household income with program cost; verify your household row, participating institution, and actual award.
