Portland Community College (PCC) serves a five-county district in northwest Oregon, not just the city named in its title. The college began in 1961 as an adult-education program of Portland Public Schools; voters formed a separate regional district in 1968. Today PCC reports more than 50,000 full- and part-time students, four comprehensive campuses, ten smaller centers and classes at community locations. That network matters when choosing a program: an admissions office, an English class, a technical lab and a transfer degree may be based at different addresses.
Four full-service campuses, four different settings
In North Portland, Cascade Campus pairs an urban location with training in emergency services, health, criminal justice and other career fields. Its fitness facilities, basketball gym, library, learning garden and on-site child care put student resources close to classrooms. PCC describes the campus as bike-friendly and well connected to transit; a free shuttle links the main locations.
West of downtown, Rock Creek Campus spreads across 260 acres in Washington County. Veterinary Technology students learn in labs and at a working farm; the two-year associate pathway includes clinical practice and limited admission. The grounds also host dealer-service and aviation training, a learning garden, gallery, soccer and fitness facilities. The address says Portland, but the campus is about 12 miles west of downtown, so compare the route and transit timetable before enrolling in an in-person section.
Southeast Campus, near 82nd Avenue and Division Street, connects college study to neighborhoods in east Portland. Its 18-acre site is a full campus where students can pursue transfer study and associate degrees, take ESOL, or complete career programs such as the one-year, 45-credit Computer-Aided Design and Drafting certificate. A Jade District learning space, small-business support, fitness facilities and community events extend its role beyond classes.
On a wooded hill between Tigard and Lake Oswego, Sylvania Campus is the district’s largest site. Its programs range from nursing and medical imaging to architecture, automotive service and engineering technology. Radiography is a two-year, limited-entry associate degree with 102.5 quarter credits. The campus also has a Performing Arts Center, gallery, MakerLab, garden, gym and child-development center. Program pages, rather than the general campus list, explain prerequisites, selection and where specialty classes take place.
How admission works
For most credit programs, the sequence is straightforward: submit the free admission application, complete new-student orientation, review writing and math placement, meet with an advisor, then register in MyPCC when the student’s registration time opens. The placement process helps determine whether prior coursework or another placement option satisfies prerequisites for college-level classes. Applicants with international, dual-enrollment, under-18 or noncredit plans follow different steps. PCC’s four Admissions Welcome Centers can help with the application, orientation, placement, MyPCC and enrollment. For winter 2027, PCC lists December 14, 2026, as the application deadline and January 4, 2027, as the first day of the term; schedules and deadlines change by term.
Tuition, aid and scholarships
For 2026–27, PCC lists resident tuition at $143 per credit and nonresident tuition at $298. The resident rate also applies to eligible students from Washington, California, Idaho, Nevada and Oregon, as well as some veterans using qualifying education benefits. Mandatory fees include a $4.25 student-activity charge and $7.35 instructional-technology charge per credit, plus a $15 college-service fee per term; books and course-specific expenses are additional. PCC’s own example budget puts a full-time 12-credit term at about $2,500 for tuition, fees and books. The final bill depends on residency, credits, program fees and materials; see the current tuition and fee schedule.
U.S. citizens and eligible noncitizens generally begin with the FAFSA; Oregon residents with undocumented status, DACA or TPS use the state’s ORSAA application. Federal and state grants, work-study and loans have different eligibility and enrollment conditions. PCC Foundation scholarships are another route: the 2026–27 application opens November 1, 2026, and is due February 1, 2027. PCC asks applicants to submit an admission application by January 15 to meet the scholarship deadline. Award amounts are not guaranteed; complete the FAFSA or ORSAA and check the college’s current instructions before counting on assistance.
Starting when English is still developing
PCC’s ESOL program gives adult learners a separate path into English study, from eight levels for people with no or little English through academic English that prepares students for college coursework. Applicants submit the college application with ESOL as their goal, take a placement test and attend orientation. Levels 1–3 build integrated reading, writing, listening and speaking; levels 4–8 include transitional and academic study. PCC says levels 7 and 8 can contribute up to 24 credits toward an associate degree, and its catalog describes progression into college-level writing after advanced ESOL. Classes are offered at multiple campuses and centers; confirm the location and available level before travelling. This language program is distinct from the admission and English-proficiency requirements for international students.
Choose the address by the task
The four comprehensive campuses share PCC’s broad student services, but their specialist facilities and schedules differ. The district also operates ten centers for targeted training, transfer courses and workforce services, including the CLIMB Center, Hillsboro Education Center, Swan Island Trades Center, Opportunity Center at 42nd Avenue and Willow Creek Opportunity Center. Community Education courses can meet at many additional neighborhood sites. Use the live class schedule to identify the teaching location, the campus map to find a building, and the official application, financial-aid or ESOL page for the next action. Parking permits are required on PCC property during enforcement hours; transit and shuttle schedules should be checked before each visit.
