About Portland Community College — Sylvania Campus

Sylvania occupies a wooded hill in southwest Portland between Tigard and Lake Oswego. At 12000 SW 49th Avenue, it is PCC’s largest campus, serving more than 23,000 students a year, and its scale is visible in the mix of academic, health, arts and recreation facilities. The full-service site offers transfer coursework and professional programs, a library, bookstore, student services and a wide choice of specialized classrooms. Because the grounds are spread across a hillside, check the campus map before an appointment or a class in a particular building.

Several programs based here require purpose-built instruction. Medical Imaging trains radiography students in health-technology labs and clinical placements; PCC lists the associate degree at two years and 102.5 quarter credits, with limited admission and prerequisite requirements. Nursing and other health programs also use Sylvania’s clinical and simulation spaces. Beyond health, the campus highlights architectural design, automotive service and engineering technology. These examples illustrate the range, but they do not share one entry process: review the award page for application dates, prerequisite courses and credit totals before planning a start.

Sylvania’s campus life includes a Performing Arts Center, North View Gallery, MakerLab, learning garden, fitness facilities and child-development center. The MakerLab is an interdisciplinary space for prototyping and hands-on projects; its open-lab times and workshops change by term. PCC also lists resource centers for veterans, women, multicultural students and queer students. New applicants can visit the Admissions Welcome Center in the College Center, room 206, for help with applying, orientation, placement and registration.

This southwest location has bus connections and a free PCC shuttle to other campuses and downtown; the college lists TriMet lines 44 and 78 as serving Sylvania. PCC parking permits are required during enforcement hours, including for visitors, and a permit does not promise a space. The campus map shows visitor parking, accessible routes and shuttle and transit stops. If driving, cycling or transferring between campuses, consult those directions and current operating hours, since the hillside setting and dispersed buildings make the exact destination useful information.
