The Silver State Opportunity Grant (SSOG) is Nevada need-based aid for resident students ready for college-level coursework. Only the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Nevada State University, Truckee Meadows Community College, and Western Nevada College participate. It is not automatically available at UNR, UNLV, or every university; verify the campus in the official list.
Rules include Nevada residency for tuition, a first certificate or degree, no prior bachelor’s, satisfactory progress, and readiness in math and English. For 2026–27, FAFSA SAI had to be 8,500 or lower and the usual load is at least 12 program-applicable credits. Ask the college which test it uses to document “college ready.”
NSHE calculates awards using attendance cost, contributions, and other aid. The annual maximum may reach $5,500 at 15 credits each semester; with 12 credits per term, the cap is $4,400. These are formula limits, not guaranteed money. Pell and other grants can reduce the final award.
Funds can run out: priority goes to 15 credits and greatest need, then other loads and students close to graduation. File FAFSA early, list the correct college, and make sure courses count toward the degree. Courses outside the plan may not qualify.
Check your portal and written offer; ask whether residency, FAFSA, and credits were verified. Do not budget the maximum before an award. The SSOG profile explains the formula, and the NSHE profile links the five institutions.
Before budgeting, request a written offer separating tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, books, and transportation. State grants often reduce only eligible charges and may change after Pell or other scholarships are applied. Do not commit money based on a chart maximum.
Your campus office should confirm missing documents, institutional eligibility, and disbursement timing. The program profile expands on the criteria; the public-agency profile links to applications, deadlines, and official help.

Research checked on October 12, 2026 against official or institutional sources. Past deadlines are identified, and eligibility is distinguished from an actual award. Confirm the cycle, your file, and available funds with the agency and your college financial-aid office.
SSOG requires an eligible campus and available funds; the cap depends on credits and need.
