Maskay guide

What consular services are available at Japan’s Embassy in Yerevan, and how do you book?

A practical guide to passports, certificates, records and visas in Yerevan, including mandatory appointments and access details.

Japan’s Embassy in Yerevan centralizes consular procedures for Japanese nationals living in Armenia and accepts visa applications from people eligible to apply there. The first useful distinction is between a Japanese document—such as a passport or certificate—and an Armenian permit: the Japanese mission does not replace local immigration offices. Its official index also shows which procedures may begin online and which require attendance.

The published address is 23/4 Babayan Street, Yerevan. The main telephone is +374 11 52 30 10 and the email is embjp@yv.mofa.go.jp; for emergencies outside working hours, the Embassy lists +374 41 43 41 45. The Consular Section is open Monday to Friday, 9:15 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 2:00–5:00 p.m., except holidays, but receives visitors by prior appointment only. The Embassy says to request a slot by email one week to five days before the desired visit, providing name, phone, procedure and requested time. A visit is not confirmed until the Embassy replies.

Passport applications and renewals, certificates, and birth, marriage or nationality filings require an appointment. The official index also covers overseas residence registration for stays of three months or more, Tabi-Reg for short trips, family filings, consular certificates, overseas voting and some My Number services for eligible Japanese nationals. State the exact procedure when booking: an appointment for one document does not guarantee that the office can handle additional unlisted matters or accept an incomplete file.

The Embassy also handles Japanese visas for foreign travelers within its jurisdiction. Applicants should check the official forms and supporting documents for their purpose and length of stay, then confirm the submission channel with the Consular Section. The service index links to a Japanese visa information hotline in English and Russian, but other official pages list conflicting English numbers; we therefore verified the contact directly before publishing and provide the main phone and email that are consistent. The information line does not replace case-specific follow-up.

A useful first email gives nationality, current residence, procedure and deadline, and asks which originals, photographs, fees and in-person steps are required. For a certificate intended for an Armenian authority, ask that receiving office what format it accepts. Appointment rules, holidays and document lists can change, so the official portal and the Embassy’s individual confirmation should take precedence over older directories.
