Which Japanese consular services are available in Luxembourg?

A practical guide to passports, certificates, registrations and visas at Japan’s Embassy in Luxembourg, including access and appointments.

In Luxembourg, Japan’s Embassy is also the country’s main consular counter: it handles documents for Japanese nationals and certain applications for Japanese visas. Official guidance separates procedures that can start online from those requiring an in-person visit and sets an important territorial limit: passing through the Grand Duchy is not enough to apply for a visa there.

The office is at 62 Avenue de la Faïencerie, L-1510 Luxembourg, in Limpertsberg. The Embassy lists bus routes 8 and 30 (Henri VII or Ermesinde stops) and the Faïencerie tram stop, all a short walk away. Main telephone: +352 46 41 51 1; consular email: consulate.embjapan@lx.mofa.go.jp. Consular reception is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m.–noon and 2:00–5:00 p.m.; advance booking is recommended.

The Japanese-national service menu includes passports, residence, birth and marriage certificates, driving-licence translations, signature certification and police certificates. Each document has its own rules, timing and supporting evidence. ORRnet, the overseas-residence reporting system, supports some applications and electronic certificates. Before selecting digital delivery, ask the receiving authority whether it accepts an e-certificate or printout.

For visas, the mission accepts applications from people who live or work in Luxembourg or hold a Certificate of Eligibility for long-term residence. Applicants without that connection should contact the Japanese office responsible for their usual residence. Once the file is ready, request an appointment by email; submission is generally in person. The guide estimates about one week for a complete application, while noting that further documents may be requested. The PDF fee table we found expired in March 2026, so it is not reproduced.

Luxembourg nationals also have specific Working Holiday guidance, with its own eligibility conditions and a limited annual allocation. To avoid an unnecessary trip, state nationality, residence, procedure and intended date in the first email, and confirm originals, collection hours and current payment method. Check the Embassy’s 2026 closure calendar before choosing a date.
