What services does Japan’s Seattle Consulate provide, and which part of Idaho does it serve?

A guide to Japan’s Seattle Consulate: Washington, Montana and Northern Idaho, appointment-only services, passports and downtown access.

Jurisdiction matters in the Pacific Northwest because three Japanese posts divide the region. The Embassy’s directory, updated in April 2026, assigns Washington, Montana and Idaho counties north of Idaho County to Seattle. Portland handles Oregon and Southern Idaho, while Alaska has its own Consular Office in Anchorage. An older Seattle webpage may still show Alaska, so this guide follows the more recent federal directory and the other offices’ territorial pages.

The Consulate-General is at 701 Pike Street, Suite 1000, Seattle, WA 98101; the telephone is (206) 682-9107. Consular window services are appointment-only, Monday to Friday, 9:00–11:30 a.m. and 1:00–4:30 p.m., except holidays. Official visitor instructions also require security screening and prohibit weapons, knives and other hazardous items. Bring identification and arrange the appointment before travelling to the building.

For Japanese nationals, official channels separate passports and certificates, general enquiries, visas, culture, education, scholarships and the JET Program. The consular catalogue includes travel documents, certificates, family notifications and administrative matters connected with residence abroad. Forms and checklists are organized by category; the exact certificate requested by a Japanese authority determines which application and evidence are appropriate.

Visas for travel to Japan follow a different route from services for Japanese nationals. Eligibility depends on nationality, purpose and length of stay, and the applicant must reside within the consulate’s district. The office also publishes an annual fee schedule with a defined validity period; for July 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027, it specifies exact-cash payment for fee-bearing categories, with no coins, cards or personal checks. Check the current table and whether your nationality is exempt before preparing payment.

The website also describes economic, cultural and educational outreach in a region with business and academic ties to Japan. Consul-General Iyori appears at the office’s 2026 official reception. These programs are not consular procedures and do not replace individual guidance from the visa or passport section. Before a visit, check the holiday calendar, appointment and correct section; phone and email contacts are divided by subject.

We could not confidently identify one current Google Maps listing for the consulate suite, so we publish no score or review count. The profile gathers verified access, hours, contacts and services, and explains Idaho’s operational boundary to help visitors avoid being sent to Seattle when Portland or Anchorage is responsible.
