The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) serves Pittsburgh and communities across Allegheny County through four campuses, three centers and online study. Its network ranges from the North Shore and Homewood to Monroeville, West Mifflin, Braddock Hills and Oakdale. The right starting point depends on the credential, the courses offered that term and how far a student can travel.
Who can apply, and what does admission require?
CCAC describes itself as an open-admissions college and does not require a college entrance exam. Full-time applicants should have a high-school diploma or GED, or be at least 18 with experience the college considers reasonably equivalent. Applicants must submit high-school transcripts. Full-time degree-seeking students and students taking courses with English, reading or math prerequisites also complete placement assessments. Admission to CCAC does not automatically admit a student to limited-enrollment programs, including some health-care pathways; those programs have separate criteria.
Start with the application and enrollment steps, then follow instructions for transcripts, placement, advising and registration. CCAC also offers enrollment appointments and new-student onboarding. Before applying, identify whether the goal is an associate degree, certificate, diploma, transfer coursework or a few individual classes, since each route affects prerequisites and course sequence.
Tuition, fees and ways to pay
CCAC’s posted schedule lists Allegheny County residents at $130 per credit and a fall or spring flat tuition of $1,950 for 12–18 credits. Residents of other Pennsylvania counties are listed at $260 per credit or $3,900 for 12–18 credits; out-of-state and international students at $390 per credit or $5,850 for that full-time range. These are tuition figures, not the full bill: college, student-service and technology charges apply, and laboratory, health-care, materials or program fees may add to the cost. Summer is billed by credit rather than the fall/spring flat rate. Review the current tuition and cost page and its cost breakdown before budgeting.
For federal aid, file the FAFSA using CCAC school code 003231; the financial-aid office also administers state funding, grants, loans and work-study. The Educational Foundation awards more than $600,000 annually across more than 100 scholarship funds, with eligibility varying by award. At the October 27, 2026 research check, the Spring 2027 application window was open through November 1, 2026. Check the scholarship page for current deadlines and documents. Targeted awards, including a county-endowed scholarship, have specific conditions; a general application does not guarantee funding.
English classes for students who are still learning
CCAC uses a placement assessment to match English learners with English as an Academic Language (EAL). The possible sequence includes pronunciation, communication, reading, academic English structure and composition. A student may take all six courses or only those indicated by placement results. The aim is to build language skills for college classes rather than require every learner to start at the same level.
People who want English practice before enrolling can ask about CCAC’s fee-based, noncredit Community Education classes or find free classes through Literacy Pittsburgh, Casa San José and Hello Neighbor. The English-learner page says CCAC can assist in English or Spanish. Current students can also access academic support such as tutoring; confirm which service and appointment format fits the course. Read the college’s English-learner guidance before scheduling placement.
Four campuses and three centers: choosing where to study
On Pittsburgh’s North Shore, Allegheny Campus combines enrollment and financial-aid services with a broad academic offering, continuing education and the Center for Education, Innovation & Training. CCAC says the campus is close to public transportation and has free parking; visitors should navigate to 808 Ridge Avenue, although the official campus address is 800 Allegheny Avenue.
East of the city, Boyce Campus in Monroeville pairs dozens of programs with renovated allied-health and nursing facilities, a café, bookstore, gym and theater. In the North Hills, North Campus highlights cybersecurity and multimedia innovation labs, simulation and gaming, virtual reality, tutoring, a Learning Commons and fitness facilities. South of Pittsburgh, South Campus serves the Mon Valley with health and nursing laboratories, aviation study, a library, theater and fitness center.
The three centers are smaller instructional and service sites. Braddock Hills Center has classrooms and computer labs for credit courses, community education and customized workforce training. Homewood-Brushton Center offers science and computer labs, tutoring, advising, placement testing and enrollment support in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood. West Hills Center in Oakdale concentrates technical fields such as mechatronics, advanced manufacturing, automotive, HVAC, welding and plumbing.
Getting to class and planning a schedule
CCAC’s maps page links campus, parking and accessibility maps; its parking-permit page lists the documents needed to request a pass. The college specifically identifies free parking at Allegheny Campus, while visitors should check the exact site map and current rules before driving. For public transportation, use Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s schedule and trip-planning tools with the actual class address, since timetables change and campuses are spread across different corridors.
CCAC began classes in September 1966 with 1,505 students. It now advertises more than 130 programs across nine career pathways, with transfer study, associate degrees, certificates and workforce training. A full-time associate path is often planned over two academic years, but credits, prerequisites, clinical requirements, selective admission and course availability at a chosen location can change the timeline. Start with the program page, compare its course map with the current schedule, and ask an advisor where each required class is offered.
For enrollment, tuition, aid or English placement, use the college links above and verify current term information before making a decision. The campus profiles distinguish facilities and services at each site so students can choose a location suited to their program and everyday study needs.
Check current details and choose according to your budget, time and way of travelling.
