How to study at Augusta Tech: admission, tuition, English and locations

Admission, published tuition, financial aid, free English classes and six Augusta Technical College locations.

Maskay editorial team Updated

Augusta Technical College began in 1961 as a vocational-technical school created to prepare local residents for skilled work. It now serves Burke, Columbia, Lincoln, McDuffie and Richmond counties through more than 100 academic and career programs, adult education and employer training. The college has six listed teaching locations: its 77-acre Augusta Campus, Columbia County in Grovetown, the downtown Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, the Summerville health-sciences site, Thomson/McDuffie and Waynesboro/Burke. Each site has a different role, so the nearest address is not always where a chosen class meets.

Degrees, diplomas and short credentials

Augusta Tech offers associate degrees, diplomas and Technical Certificates of Credit across arts and sciences, business and cybersecurity, health sciences, public and professional services, aviation, advanced manufacturing and engineering technology. Some options are designed for transfer; others prepare students for a specific trade or license. A credential’s duration depends on required credits, prerequisites, course sequence, clinical or lab hours and whether the program admits students competitively. Use the college’s current catalog and campus-specific program lists to check which courses are offered at each location. The college reports more than 100 programs; the list and delivery schedule can change.

How admission works

Applicants generally begin with an online application, official high-school or equivalency records and any prior college transcripts needed for transfer credit. The college’s admissions policy describes an open application process for people age 16 and older, but program rules still apply. ACCUPLACER is required for specific groups, including Basic Law Enforcement applicants and some dual-enrollment students; it is not a universal entrance exam. Health-science and other limited-access programs may require prerequisites, minimum grades, testing or a separate ranking process. General acceptance to Augusta Tech does not guarantee entry into a selective sequence.

If English is still developing, Augusta Tech’s Adult Education program offers free English-language classes as well as adult literacy and GED/HiSET preparation. Registration requires accepted identification, and class locations and times vary. These classes build everyday English and academic readiness; they are not the same as credit-bearing English courses or automatic placement into a degree program. Students should ask Adult Education about the next available class and speak with Admissions about language expectations for the program they intend to pursue.

Tuition, fees and ways to pay

The college’s published tuition table lists $107 per credit hour for Georgia residents and residents of several neighboring South Carolina counties, $214 for other out-of-state students and $428 for international students in associate, diploma and certificate programs. At 12 credits, tuition is $1,284 for the first rate, before mandatory registration fees. The standard listed fees total $536, making that example $1,820 before books, tools, uniforms, clinical expenses and program-specific charges. Health programs, welding, culinary arts, law enforcement and commercial driving can add separate costs; fully online students have some fees waived. Confirm the rate for the coming term and your residency status with Student Accounts.

Eligible students may apply for federal Pell and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants through the FAFSA, Georgia HOPE programs and the HOPE Career Grant for listed fields. Augusta Tech says it does not participate in the federal Direct Loan Program. Its Foundation uses one AwardSpring application for scholarships; the usual minimum is a 2.0 GPA and at least six enrolled credits, although donors may set different conditions. A student must first be admitted and use the assigned college email to access the scholarship portal. The Net Price Calculator and financial-aid office can help compare grants and fees before registration.

Pick a location that matches the program

The Augusta Campus houses admissions, financial aid, student accounts, adult education, a library and the widest range of academic schools. Grovetown’s Columbia County Center combines general studies and technical options, including horticulture, welding and medical assisting. At the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, Augusta Tech teaches cybersecurity, cloud computing and networking. Summerville is the college’s health-sciences site at Piedmont Augusta, where clinical instruction connects programs with a hospital setting. Thomson/McDuffie pairs technical study with an aviation-maintenance training center at the regional airport; Waynesboro serves Burke County with credit courses and adult education.

Parking rules differ by location but the college requires permits for students and employees; visitors should use spaces marked for visitors. The Augusta Campus map shows parking areas and building numbers, and Augusta Transit’s Route 9 lists the main campus as a stop. Bus service does not connect every regional site in the same way, so check the current route and schedule for the exact address. Start with the admissions page, compare published tuition and fees, and use the Adult Education registration instructions if you need English or high-school-equivalency classes.
