About Alma
Alma: Two-Michelin-Star Portuguese Fine Dining in Lisbon
Alma is a fine-dining restaurant at Rua Anchieta, 15, in Lisbon’s Chiado neighborhood. Founded in 2009 by chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, it has earned two Michelin stars. The restaurant presents itself as a place where chef-driven cuisine elevates Portuguese culinary tradition through a sophisticated, contemporary approach shaped by global influences.
Dining: Tasting Menus and À La Carte
The restaurant offers several formats. The Costa a Costa menu is described as a tribute to fish and seafood from Portugal’s coast, with a preference for sustainable species. The Alma tasting menu revisits the chef’s classics with sophistication and creativity. An à la carte option lets diners create a more personal meal by choosing individual dishes. The wine list is led by head sommelier Gonçalo Ramalho, with close attention to detail and personalized service.
Team and Leadership
The team includes people with years of experience at the restaurant and across the industry. Henrique Sá Pessoa is the chef and founder. Francisco Garrido has been head chef since 2016. Diogo Carvalho is sous-chef, Ana Canhoto is pastry chef, and Gonçalo Ramalho has been head sommelier since 2022, after joining as a sommelier in 2017. Duarte Coelho has been restaurant director since 2021. Diogo Duarte is assistant dining-room manager, having joined in 2016 and returned in 2023. Miguel Lamy is dining-room manager, with more than 10 years of experience.
