About Consular Section, Embassy of Japan in Lithuania

Japan’s Embassy in Lithuania handles services for Japanese nationals and some Japanese visa applications from its Vilnius post. Booking by phone or email is recommended for passports, certificates, visas and family notifications; arriving without one may mean a wait. The Embassy gives separate attention to urgent cases, such as a lost passport when immediate travel is necessary, as well as overseas voting and consular protection matters.

The public counter is at M. K. Čiurlionio g. 82B, Vilnius LT-03100. Its consular telephone is +370 5 231 0462 and the email is consular@vn.mofa.go.jp. Counter hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 1:30–5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. The entrance uses an intercom, and the Embassy publishes office hours that differ from counter hours; use the consular schedule for document submissions and confirm special closures.

Japanese passport renewals may be started online when the applicant meets the rules; first-time issuance, loss-related documents and collection have their own requirements. The official passport guide explains when a renewal may be filed, the handover process and identity documents. Allow time to present originals, and do not assume that an online application completes the entire process remotely.

Certificates may establish residence, a signature, civil status or other facts for a Lithuanian institution. The appropriate document depends on what the recipient requires, so ask about format, translation, apostille and validity before paying or booking. The Embassy also handles birth and other family or nationality notifications, for which statutory deadlines may matter.

Japanese nationals who establish residence abroad for at least three months must submit the relevant notification; the Embassy directs users to ORR Net and explains how to report changes. Tabi-Reg is intended for shorter trips and safety alerts. Registration helps the government provide information and locate nationals in emergencies, but does not replace Lithuanian local registration or an immigration permit.

The Embassy accepts Japanese visa applications and publishes rules based on passport and residence status. Applicants who are not Lithuanian citizens should confirm that Vilnius has jurisdiction over their place of residence before assembling documents. The consular pages also cover overseas voting and safety guidance. We could not confidently attribute a Google Maps rating or review count to this exact embassy listing, so nearby institutions’ metrics were excluded.
