About Soup Curry Suage+

Susukino is one of Sapporo’s liveliest gateways: neon signs, shopping streets and restaurants make dinner part of the evening walk. A few minutes from the Susukino tram stop, Soup Curry Suage+ serves a dish that makes particular sense in Hokkaido’s winter: a spiced broth lighter than thick Japanese curry, large-cut vegetables and chicken or pork, eaten with a spoon and rice.

The business has been in Sapporo since 2007 and describes its cooking as a way to bring Hokkaido together in one bowl. Its current menu includes Sakura-hime chicken with vegetables, zangi fried chicken, braised pork and a vegetable curry, alongside classic, squid-ink and shrimp broths. Diners can also adjust the heat. Vegetables are not a garnish here: pumpkin, aubergine, green pepper and other ingredients arrive in generous pieces, each prepared separately. The official menu lists current prices, although it can change.

The format invites you to order at your own pace and customize the bowl. Visitors often mention the crisp-skinned chicken, broccoli and other vegetables, rice and aromatic broth; less enthusiastic comments question the depth of flavour or the amount of meat. Popularity brings queues, especially at dinner, and the shop uses a numbered waitlist that can be checked online. One practical caveat matters: the broth is not vegetarian, even when you choose a vegetable-topped curry. Ask staff about allergies or dietary restrictions.

The restaurant is on the second floor of the Toshimatsu Building, opposite Norbesa, at Minami 4-jo Nishi 5-chome. The official site lists different hours by day: it opens at 11:30 on weekdays and 11 am on Sundays and public holidays; Monday and Thursday closing is half an hour earlier than on other days. It takes no reservations, accepts cash or PayPay only, and has no parking. GARAKU lies east near Nijo Market, so both offer central Sapporo comparisons, while Suage+ is convenient when your walk ends in Susukino.
