About Kurume Ramen Seiyoken Main Shop
Seiyoken began as a ramen stall in 1952. Its story was interrupted when the business closed in 2006; after a project led by former customers, the name and recipe returned in Suwanomachi in 2009. The current restaurant is therefore a revival of a tradition, not an original 1950s stall. Its menu lets diners compare a lighter tonkotsu soup with “yatai-shikomi”, a richer bowl intended to recall the concentrated flavour of Kurume’s street carts.
The menu goes beyond ramen: gyoza crisped on one side, fried rice and set meals mean many tables order a fuller meal. Customer comments praise the savoury broth without excessive greasiness, noodles, dumplings and, often, the fried rice. Other diners prefer a stronger soup or note that sides and service can vary when the restaurant is busy. To understand the local difference, ask which broth is richer and choose between “yatai-shikomi” and “suppin”, the clearer style.
The main shop has 66 seats, tatami and table seating, ample parking and room for families. It is not right beside a station: it is about a ten-minute drive or a longer walk from Nishitetsu Kurume, and roughly a twenty-minute walk from JR Kurume Koko-mae. Some visitors like the ticket-machine ordering and informal atmosphere, while others report queues at mealtimes. It works for a family lunch or roadside stop, and the broad menu lets you order only ramen or add rice and gyoza.
The address is 1798-6 Suwanomachi, Kurume; telephone +81 942-32-9736. The official site lists 11 am–9:30 pm on weekdays and 10:30 am–9:30 pm on weekends and holidays, with last orders at 9 pm; it closes on the third Tuesday and January 1. A municipal listing gives a different closure schedule, so the restaurant’s own site should take priority and special dates should be confirmed. There is parking, and taxis or local buses are practical; this is not the branch inside Nishitetsu Kurume Station.
