About Auberge du Père Bise – Jean Sulpice
Two-Michelin-Starred Hotel and Restaurant on Lake Annecy
Auberge du Père Bise is a hotel and dining property in Talloires, on the shore of Lake Annecy at the foot of the Alps, between the Bauges massif and the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley. It combines a five-star hotel, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, and a second restaurant, Le 1903. The property is led by chef Jean Sulpice and Magali Sulpice, who oversees the design of its spaces and the hospitality experience.
Jean Sulpice Fine-Dining Restaurant
The two-Michelin-starred restaurant occupies a dining room with large windows and a terrace facing Lake Annecy. Jean Sulpice's cooking is presented in six- or eight-course explorations shaped by the Alpine region: fera from Lake Annecy, game from the forests, herbs from the garden, wild plants, chocolate, and Savoie saffron. The menu is framed as a culinary exploration of the Alpine landscape.
Le 1903: Traditional French Cooking
Le 1903 takes its name from the year Auberge du Père Bise was founded. Jean Sulpice offers more accessible cooking rooted in French tradition, with updated classics and references to Savoie cuisine. Designed as a winter garden behind a panoramic glass wall, the dining room overlooks the small harbor and pier in Talloires Bay, facing the limestone cliffs on the southern slope of Roc de Chère. The property's dining offer also includes Marius Bar.
Accommodations: 22 Rooms and Suites
The hotel, a Relais & Châteaux property since 1973, has 22 rooms and suites in the main building and the garden house. The rooms use colors inspired by the natural surroundings—celadon, forest green, lichen, and deep blue—and offer views of the lake, Talloires Bay, Roc de Chère, and the Entrevernes mountain. Under Magali Sulpice's direction, the interiors have been shaped to feel like a family home.
The Auberge Spa
The spa sits beside the lake at the edge of the wooded park and is open to both hotel guests and outside visitors. It has three cocoon-style treatment rooms on the ground floor and in the garden. Upstairs, a 13-meter panoramic pool overlooks Lake Annecy beneath a pitched roof with exposed timber. Facilities also include a hammam, sauna, sensory shower, cold bath, and an outdoor Nordic bath on the lake-view terrace.
Chef Jean Sulpice
Jean Sulpice is a chef from Savoie, the grandson of hoteliers and restaurateurs, and an athlete who cycles, skis, and hikes. His cooking is connected to the Alpine region and draws on ingredients such as wild herbs, forest game, fish, and crayfish from the lake. The fine-dining restaurant has held two Michelin stars since 2018 and also has a Michelin Green Star for environmentally responsible practices. In 2018, Gault & Millau named him Chef of the Year; in 2019, he was named a Chevalier of the French National Order of Merit.
Other Services
The property has a boutique, takeout sales, gift certificates, a seminar space called the cloister, and a webcam service. The website also has sections for access, frequently asked questions, and press. The property warns of an exceptional closure on the D909 from September 14 to December 18, with information and detours available.
