Marmelo
A Melbourne restaurant by Ross and Sunny Lusted that reinterprets Portuguese and wood-fired cooking, with an open kitchen, charcoal grill and wood oven.
About Marmelo
Marmelo, wood-fired Portuguese cooking in Melbourne
Marmelo is Ross and Sunny Lusted's culinary project, a concept that reinterprets Portugal and wood-fired cooking, drawing on the small restaurants and bars of coastal Portugal and Spain, where markets are part of everyday life, just as they are in Melbourne. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of 130 Russell Street, Melbourne.
Ross Lusted's cooking
Ross Lusted is known for cooking with wood and charcoal. At Marmelo he has placed a custom-built charcoal grill and wood oven at the centre of an open kitchen, so that the fire is the visible heart of the restaurant.
The space
The dining room is described as vibrant and energetic. It features hand-painted tiles reminiscent of the streets of Lisbon, a glass-fronted wine room conceived as a jewellery box, and original works by Lucy Roleff and Ben Mazey. The design is by Mitchell & Eades and incorporates intimate spaces, banquette seating upholstered in rich tapestry fabrics, brushed metal details and a grand chartreuse staircase as a centrepiece.
