About Berowra Waters Inn

Berowra Waters Inn, Australian waterfront degustation restaurant

Berowra Waters Inn is a contemporary Australian restaurant located on the waterfront in Berowra Waters, New South Wales. Its offering is built around a degustation menu made with organic, local produce, accompanied by Australian wines, in a native forest setting. The establishment presents itself as an ideal place for celebrations such as anniversaries or birthdays, for a proposal with a view, or as an introduction to Australian cuisine and environment.

A location with history on Berowra Creek

The restaurant's site, on Berowra Creek, a tributary of the Hawkesbury River, has been important to Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. In the 1920s, a teahouse and guest house were first built on the site. In the mid-1970s, the building was transformed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt in his distinctive Australian vernacular style, combining Sydney sandstone with corrugated tin and glass louvre windows. Murcutt's vision for the building was revealed in 1977 and the final stage was completed in 1983. The architect originally described it as a "veranda by the water", and the establishment has been considered among Australia's best restaurants since its inception.

Cuisine and team

Executive Chef Brian Geraghty took over ownership of the restaurant in 2012. He was recognised as Chef of the Year 2018 by Gault & Millau Australia. His career includes positions at some of Australia's leading restaurants, such as the three-hatted Bilson's, where he was chef de cuisine and executive sous chef; Sean Connolly's Astral; and the three-hatted Quay. His CV includes periods at Lindsay House and Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin, and at London's two-Michelin-starred Pied à Terre, where he worked for four years under expat Aussie chef Shane Osborn. He has also undertaken stage positions at L'Astrance in Paris and Per Se and WD-50 in New York.
