About Amaru Melbourne

Amaru Melbourne: contemporary Australian cuisine in Armadale

Amaru Melbourne is a contemporary Australian restaurant located in the suburb of Armadale, in Melbourne. Its open-concept dining room, seating a maximum of 34 guests, seeks to create a direct connection between the diner and the creations of the kitchen. The name Amaru is presented on the website as an amalgamation of words loosely translating to "a beautiful place to love".

Tasting menu and guided experience

The culinary offering is built around a tasting menu inspired by exquisite Australian produce, prepared with culinary techniques from around the globe. The menu is revealed and delivered by the entire team — chefs, waiters and sommeliers — who guide guests through each serving. The experience can be accompanied by beverage options from an extensive cellar or by house-made infusions and ferments.

Background and accolades

The restaurant was opened in 2016 by Clinton, whose culinary journey began in a small town in Queensland and continued in the kitchens of some of the world's most renowned restaurants, where he gained experience from a wide variety of influential chefs. Since then, the establishment has continued to develop into, according to its own presentation, one of Melbourne's most exciting venues.

In its second year of operation, Amaru received two chefs hats from The Age Good Food Guide and in 2023 it received a third hat, a distinction held by just four restaurants in Victoria at that time. The restaurant also appears regularly on lists of the country's best restaurants compiled by national food and beverage critics and experts.
