Private scholarship for Dreamer students in states with restricted college access · Washington, District of Columbia, United States

TheDream.US Opportunity Scholarship

The program offers up to US$100,000 for a four-year bachelor’s degree (up to US$25,000 per year) toward tuition, fees, and on-campus housing and meals at one of five out-of-state Partner Colleges. It requires a separate college application, admission, full-time enrollment, and renewal. The two official state lists do not match as of October 2026, so applicants should verify their state in the new round.

About TheDream.US Opportunity Scholarship

TheDream.US Opportunity Scholarship supports Dreamer students living in states where they may face nonresident tuition or restrictions on enrolling at public colleges. Unlike the National Scholarship, it requires students to relocate to an out-of-state Partner College. The organization says the next application opens November 1, 2026, and closes January 31, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

The published maximum is US$100,000 toward a bachelor’s degree, up to US$25,000 per year for four years. The award applies to tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and meals, but the program warns students may still owe a balance. Extra classes, a major change, or a degree plan lasting more than four years may add costs beyond the award. Renewal depends on maintaining program requirements and full-time enrollment.

The official pages define the intended group as first-generation immigrant students who are currently undocumented with or without DACA/TPS, arrived before age 16 and before the cycle’s cutoff, and have lived continuously in the United States. For the next round, the FAQ lists an arrival cutoff before November 1, 2021, high-school senior or graduate status, a 2.5 GPA, and admission to a Partner College. However, the FAQ enumerates 14 states while saying there are 15; the main page lists a broader set of 22 states. Applicants should resolve this mismatch directly with the program before spending money on applications or relocation.

The current Partner College list includes Christian Brothers University in Tennessee, Delaware State University, Dominican University in Illinois, Eastern Connecticut State University, and Trinity Washington University in D.C. A scholarship application alone is not enough: students must separately apply to and be admitted by a campus. TheDream.US says recipients cannot switch Partner Colleges after receiving the award. Compare majors, admission requirements, housing, transportation, distance from family, and support for Dreamer students before ranking schools.

Prepare a transcript, GPA records, arrival and continuous-residence information, an essay, the college application, and any verification documents requested by the portal. Use Pacific Time for the deadline and submit early enough to correct errors. Scholarship selection does not guarantee college admission or cover personal costs outside approved categories. If you are unsure whether your state is currently eligible, request written confirmation from TheDream.US at 1-855-376-7076 and keep the response.
