About Alpenrose Vail

Alpenrose Vail: Alpine cuisine in the heart of Vail Village

Alpenrose Vail is an Alpine restaurant with Central European-inspired cuisine located in Vail Village, in the Vail ski resort (Colorado). The venue presents itself as a unique Alpine cabin, with a sunny patio, and combines traditional recipes with refined classics and specialties with a touch of international culinary inspiration.

The offering is defined as simple, tasty home-style cuisine, with dishes such as hearty goulash, dumpling specialties, Kässpätzle and a savoury snack plate, as well as traditional Alpine desserts like Marillenknödel, Dampfnudeln, Palatschinken or apple strudel.

Fondue, raclette and kids' menu

For families and get-togethers with friends, the restaurant offers a Walliser tomato fondue at long, comfy family tables. It also has a special menu for the little ones.

The dinner experience includes a raclette grill and fondue combo, designed for a fun and delicious family dinner: it allows several foods to be cooked at once, with meat or vegetables searing on top and a bubbling pot of beef broth for guests to dip their creations into. The site states that this offering is only available in winter.

History and continuity of 'old Vail'

Alpenrose symbolizes the living past of the last 40 years. After taking over the restaurant, its owners expressed their intention to continue the tradition and preserve a piece of 'old' Vail. In 2016, the family decided to move to the United States to bring European coziness to the Vail ski resort, Colorado, and opened their first restaurant, Almresi, thus fulfilling their dream.

The decision to take on Alpenrose was just as spontaneous: they said yes when they were offered the restaurant at the end of September 2018. The company considers Alpenrose an institution in Vail and wants to continue its story and keep 'old Vail' alive. From signing the contract to sending the container overseas with interior, decoration and china, six weeks passed, which made it possible to open before Christmas.

Team and atmosphere

The team, from Austria and Germany, presents itself as professional and passionate. Its employees dress in the old style of the world-famous South Tyrolean mountaineer Luis Trenker (1892-1990) to represent the vision of 'old' Vail. The restaurant invites you to join the Alpenrose family and build a career in the Rocky Mountains.

The venue is described as a place where guests become friends, with warmth, hospitality and enjoying life as hallmarks.

Service and reservations

The restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner. Lunch is served until 5:00 pm and dinner starts at 5:00 pm. Reservations can be made directly through the website or via the OpenTable app. The site notes that it cannot guarantee special table requests, although it strives to accommodate guests' preferences.

Private gondolas are only available during the winter season.
