About Stone Hearth Grille

Stone Hearth Grille, natural cuisine next to Bryce Canyon

Stone Hearth Grille is a fresh, natural cuisine restaurant located in Tropic, Utah, a short distance from Bryce Canyon National Park. It occupies the building that originally housed the Stone Canyon Inn, a B&B opened in August 2000 and later converted into a restaurant. The venue retains the post-and-beam structure, vaulted ceilings, and a large stone fireplace in the center of the main room, as well as a spacious deck with a stream, waterfall, and pond.

A menu based on fresh products and homemade sauces

The culinary offering focuses on fresh, natural, hormone-free beef, seafood, and poultry. The company emphasizes that all its sauces are made from scratch and that its desserts set it apart from competitors. Service is offered exclusively for dinner. Among the dishes mentioned in customer testimonials are the 8-ounce fillet, the pork chop, the shrimp and crackers as a starter, and a dessert mousse, as well as a fruit crisp.

Views and surroundings

The restaurant has views in all directions. From the outdoor seating under the pergola, diners can watch a massive pink mountain change shades toward reds at sunset. The east-facing deck allows guests to see how the sunset light illuminates Powell Point, a plateau over 10,000 feet across the valley, and later offers stargazing. From the front of the property, areas of Bryce Canyon visible only from that spot can be seen, such as Bristlecone Ridge, Sinking Ship, Fairyland Amphitheater, and Sunrise and Sunset Points.

History and ownership

The original 80-acre property, bordering Bryce Canyon National Park, was acquired in 1996 by Dixie and Mike Burbidge, who opened the Stone Canyon Inn in August 2000. In 2018, Riley and April Roberts, natives of the Bryce Canyon area, purchased both the inn and the restaurant. The property has been expanded with four cottages, four bungalows, two tree houses, and four Deluxe King rooms; the rooms in the main inn are no longer rented as that space became the restaurant. The owners offer guests personalized advice on hiking trails and lesser-known areas of the surroundings.

Natural surroundings and activities

The location allows sightings of deer, foxes, rabbits, and squirrels, and the sound of coyotes. The accommodation is presented as a starting point for hiking in Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome State Park, and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

Season and reservations

The restaurant is closed during the winter season and is scheduled to reopen in mid-March 2026, operating until October 29, 2026. The company recommends making reservations and offers an online reservation request form, as well as phone assistance.
