Florida Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) Program

Community Care for the Elderly is a Florida state program for adults age 60 and older with functional limitations, delivered through local agencies. Depending on assessment and availability, it may support personal care, meals, transportation, respite, and care coordination.

About Florida Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) Program

Community Care for the Elderly is a Florida pathway to help older adults with functional limitations remain in the least restrictive setting that meets their needs. The state administers it through Area Agencies on Aging and local contracted organizations; in Broward, the practical entry point is the county ADRC, not a state office in Tallahassee assigning caregivers directly.

State rules require age 60 or older and a comprehensive assessment documenting functional limitations. Potential services include case management, companionship, homemaking, home-delivered meals, personal care, nursing, shopping help, transportation, respite, and adult day services. The assessment determines which combination fits; reaching the age threshold does not guarantee every service or remove limits on openings.

In Broward, call the ADRC at (954) 745-9779 and ask to be assessed for Community Care for the Elderly. To locate the agency in another Florida county, call the statewide Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337. The state office publishes rules and oversees the program, while the local agency verifies need, explains documents, and connects the applicant with a provider.

CCE should not be confused with Florida Medicaid Long-Term Care, which has different medical and financial rules, a CARES assessment, and a prioritization process that may involve a waiting list. It is also different from Medicare: the federal health program does not pay for most ongoing daily personal-care tasks. Ask which program is assessing the household and whether a copay applies; Florida allows CCE contributions based on ability to pay under program rules.

Before calling, prepare the address, age, diagnosis, mobility limits, tasks relatives cannot cover, and any risk of losing meals or support. If there is immediate danger, abuse, or neglect, say so at the start so the appropriate priority route can be considered. The official page directs applicants to their local ADRC or the Elder Helpline.
