Goose & Gander was a restaurant and bar located in St. Helena, California, that operated from 2012 until its closure on December 20, 2025. The establishment presented itself as a local landmark in Napa Valley, known for its rustic American cuisine, its cocktails, and its wine list. It operated in a historic building, the former Martini House, built in 1923.

Food and beverage offering

Executive Chef Ignacio Beltrán was at the helm of the kitchen, where he prepared rustic American-style dishes and bar bites. The seasonal menu was complemented by Scott Beattie's cocktail creations and a wine selection that received awards. The offering included lunch and dinner menus, desserts, cocktails and beers, wines, and spirits.

The restaurant had several spaces: a pub-like dining room, a basement bar, and a garden. Its own agricultural production was a central component: a two-acre farm in downtown Napa, managed by master gardener Shelley Kusch and her Garden Junkie team, supplied the kitchen and bar with fresh produce daily.

History of the building

The Martini House was built in 1923 by Walter Martini as a family home. Martini, an opera singer, and his wife Dionisia moved to St. Helena in 1915 to manage the historic William Tell hotel. During Prohibition, Martini turned to bootlegging wine and whiskey, an operation of which remnants were found in the house's cellar. The building retains that historic character that Goose & Gander integrated into its identity.

Closure and legacy

The restaurant announced its closure after nearly 14 years in business, with a final date of December 20. In its farewell message, the team thanked the Napa Valley community and its regular guests for their support, and highlighted the work of its staff. Throughout its history, the venue hosted celebrations such as proposals, first dates, anniversaries, birthdays, and events such as New Year's Eve or St. Patrick's Day.
