About OnTrac

OnTrac: last-mile delivery network for e-commerce in the United States

OnTrac presents itself as an alternative carrier network for last-mile deliveries, aimed at retailers and e-commerce shippers. According to its own description, its coverage reaches 70% of the U.S. population across 31 states and the District of Columbia. The company defines itself as the first transcontinental carrier specializing in last-mile deliveries for e-commerce, resulting from the combination of LaserShip's delivery networks in the East and OnTrac's in the West.

Delivery and logistics services

The company's service catalog includes several delivery options:

  • OnTrac Ground: ground service that, according to the company, is up to two days faster and 30% less expensive than ground services from legacy carriers.
  • OnTrac Ground Essentials: cost-effective deferred delivery service now live, supported by the national seven-day-a-week coverage network.
  • OnTrac Express: two- to three-day coast-to-coast delivery service, seven days a week, with rates for packages starting under one pound. Its launch is planned for early 2026, with ClearJet as exclusive launch partner.
  • OnTrac 7-Day-Play: seven-day-a-week delivery program combined with predictive estimated delivery dates, aimed at improving conversions and repeat purchase rates for merchants.
  • Custom Logistics Solutions: customized logistics solutions covering business-to-business shipping, critical deliveries for the healthcare and pharmaceutical sector, international mail, and aircraft-on-ground repair.
  • FasTrac Partner Program: program aimed at regional delivery service providers and independent drivers.

Customer profile and activity

The company targets retailers and direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands. Among its historical milestones is Barnes & Noble as LaserShip's first e-commerce customer in 1999, a relationship the company says it maintains today. OnTrac also collaborates with ShipStation to offer coast-to-coast delivery to more merchants.

History: from Laser Courier to the transcontinental network

The company's published history places the origin of Laser Courier in 1986, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, with a document courier service. In 1991, OnTrac was born under the name California Overnight, as a division of Express Messenger Systems, Inc. (EMS), a parent company with sixty years of activity that began in Canada and expanded through the acquisition of several Canadian and American courier companies. In 1999, Laser Courier adopted the name LaserShip and signed Barnes & Noble as its first e-commerce customer. In 2000, it launched its Global Critical Delivery (GCD) division, dedicated to critical air and ground shipments for the aviation and medical sectors; according to company data, in 2018 that team made over 2,500 life-saving organ deliveries and helped get more than 14,000 airplanes back in the air. Since 2008, OnTrac says it has reached over 65 million consumers without the surcharges applied by other companies.

Partner network and territorial presence

The company structures its operation through regional delivery service providers and independent drivers, to whom it offers collaboration opportunities. Its model combines proprietary technology, advanced material handling, and customer service, and connects businesses with local delivery professionals. The company also develops community impact initiatives focused on disaster recovery, hunger relief, and community health improvement.
