About Jordan Pond House

Jordan Pond House, historic dining in Acadia National Park

Jordan Pond House is a restaurant located within Acadia National Park in Maine, combining food service with views of the park's natural surroundings. Its offering is built on a tradition that began in 1893, when visitors started enjoying tea and popovers on the lawn beside Jordan Pond. The restaurant's first proprietor was Nellie McIntire, a figure associated with the origin of that custom.

The restaurant maintains that heritage and has expanded its offering with a variety of dishes and meals, among which fresh lobster and popover ice cream sundaes are mentioned. The experience combines cuisine and scenery in a setting described in its own presentation as a one-of-a-kind destination within the park.

Dining service and reservation management

The establishment accepts reservations through the Resy platform, although online availability is limited and most tables are saved for walk-in guests. In peak season, the average wait time indicated is about 40 minutes. While waiting, visitors can use the Jordan Pond Gift Shop or the Popover and Prosecco Bar.

In addition to table service, the company has Carriage Road Carry Out, a takeout food option associated with its operation within the park.

Shops and retail points in Acadia

Alongside the restaurant, Jordan Pond House operates several retail establishments at different points within Acadia National Park:

  • Jordan Pond Retail Store, a shop associated with the restaurant and Jordan Pond.
  • Carriage Road Carry Out, a takeout food point.
  • Cadillac Mountain Retail Store, a shop located on Cadillac Mountain.
  • Thunder Hole Retail Store, a shop located at the Thunder Hole site.

The Jordan Pond Gift Shop is now open for the 2026 season, while the restaurant's opening is scheduled for May 15th. The site indicated that menu updates would be coming soon.

Natural surroundings and access

The restaurant is located in an area of the park that includes Jordan Pond, the base of Cadillac Mountain and Thunder Hole. Cadillac Mountain, at 1,530 feet in elevation, is described as the tallest mountain on the east coast, and its summit offers views of the country's earliest sunrise between 4:30 and 5:30 am in the summer months. Thunder Hole is a natural phenomenon in which waves crash against the rock and water is forced through a crevice into a small cave.

The company recommends arriving at the restaurant using the Island Explorer service, as parking in the area is very limited. Using this transportation allows more time to explore the surroundings.

Activity and team

Jordan Pond House operates under the company Dawnland LLC and keeps open calls to hire staff, with an internship program and an initiative aimed at veterans called Hiring Our Heroes. The company also has a webcam and offers information about the park, transportation, maps and the Island Explorer service.
