About Solace
Solace: patient advocates to navigate the U.S. healthcare system
Solace is a U.S. platform that connects patients and family members with specialized health advocates. These professionals handle the most complex tasks of the medical system: calls, authorizations, appointment coordination, and communication with the various members of the medical team. The service is covered by insurance nationwide, although eligibility varies by plan.
How the support works
The process begins with a conversation in which a Solace physician listens to the patient's difficulties and connects them with an advocate. From there, a plan is designed to access the necessary care. The advocate supports the patient for as long as needed, staying in touch and guiding the management of their care. Communication can be maintained by video call, phone, text message, or email, according to the user's preference.
Profile of patients served
The platform serves people with chronic or serious illnesses, patients who have lost their doctor due to coverage changes, and families caring for a loved one. In the case of caregivers, the advocate works alongside the family to manage the dependent's care. The company cites its own data according to which it has helped more than 45,000 patients and serves about 50,000 patients monthly.
Origin and approach of the company
Solace was founded in 2016 by Jeremy Gurewitz, CEO, and Sara Sargent, CPO, both co-founders. The project was born following the pancreatic cancer diagnosis of Gurewitz's mother, an experienced radiologist who, despite her knowledge of the system, encountered great difficulties in accessing clinical trials, obtaining second opinions, and evaluating treatment options. That experience led to the conclusion that the U.S. healthcare system is complex for anyone, regardless of their background. The company presents itself as a platform of people who act: advocates make the calls, locate members of the medical team, and manage communication to unlock the most intricate problems.
Services and resources
In addition to personalized support, Solace offers informational resources such as articles, Medicare guides, and a glossary. The platform allows searching for advocates by specialty and by state. For caregivers, there is a specific support pathway aimed at managing the care of a loved one.
Service limitations
Solace advocates do not provide medical or legal advice or services. The service is available to those 18 and older and its coverage depends on each patient's insurance plan.
