About CFNC — College Foundation of North Carolina

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is the state’s college-planning portal, bringing together resources to explore careers, search schools, prepare the FAFSA, compare costs and find scholarships. Its value is connecting high-school planning with college applications and finances; it does not award every scholarship or replace a college financial-aid office. CFNC is based in Raleigh, while most tools are online and can help families review options before choosing a campus.

For Next NC, CFNC publishes eligibility rules, the priority date and a calculator that estimates aid for a selected year. That estimate helps compare options, but it is not an award notice. State rules require FAFSA and residency, while each college checks credits, Pell eligibility, academic progress and available funds. If the calculator and the college offer differ, save both screens and ask the institution to explain in writing which information caused the difference.

Public student comments can suggest questions to ask; they cannot establish the rule. In April 2026, UNC Charlotte students described packages changing after an initial view and advised contacting the campus rather than waiting without a date. The account highlights a practical need—track the status of an offer—but does not prove that every university follows the same schedule. CFNC informs and guides; the college controls the individual financial-aid file.

The portal provides scholarship search, comparison and FAFSA resources, including Spanish-language content; CFNC notes that some application modules and downloadable documents may be available only in English. Students seeking guidance can call 866-866-2362. For a specific award, also ask the college whether FAFSA arrived, whether verification is missing, which priority date applies and how aid will post to tuition, fees, books or housing. Have the program name and academic year ready when asking for help.
