About Arizona Promise Program — Arizona Board of Regents

Arizona Promise may cover the remaining tuition and mandatory-fee balance after Pell and other nonrepayable aid for eligible students at the state’s public universities. It is not cash paid to a student and does not cover housing, meals, parking or books. ABOR lists Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona; each campus verifies eligibility and communicates the final figure in its financial-aid offer.

The common route is to graduate from an Arizona high school with at least a 2.5 GPA, meet state residency rules, qualify for Pell and enroll full time at a participating university. ASU’s current page also requires first-year admission, FAFSA and requested documents; it specifies 12 in-person credits per term and excludes online programs. Do not assume NAU or UArizona use identical details: read the page for the campus you plan to attend.

For fall 2027 entry, ASU says to submit a complete admission application, transcripts and FAFSA by April 1, 2027. The statewide program encourages FAFSA by April 1 of senior year, while campuses may post different preferred dates. Send verification documents early, make sure Arizona residency is classified for tuition and check that FAFSA results reached the university. Filing the form is not the same as an approved scholarship.

ASU students posted in July 2026 because Arizona Promise had not appeared in their accounts or they did not understand a Pell or credit-load alert. Replies from other users cannot decide eligibility or establish a general delay, but they show why it helps to review credits, Pell status and the My ASU checklist before accepting an offer. If the amount is missing, ask whether the file is pending or denied and which rule applies. Do not count it until the campus confirms it.

The award works as a last-dollar layer: other eligible grants and scholarships apply first, then Promise can cover a qualifying balance, not the full cost of attendance. Compare tuition and fees with housing, food, transport, health and books, which may remain uncovered. Ask how renewal works, including Pell, full-time enrollment, residency, academic progress and annual FAFSA dates. ABOR provides the statewide framework from Phoenix; the financial-aid offices at ASU, NAU and UArizona handle individual files.
