About New Haven Promise

New Haven Promise links scholarship eligibility to school history and residence in New Haven. Living in the city is not enough: the main pathway requires continuous attendance at local public or approved charter schools during high school, academic and attendance goals, and a senior-year application. The official portal shows the Class of 2027 application open and lists December 23, 2026 as the closing date.

The Student Portal Guide requires New Haven residence and continuous local attendance in grades 9–12, at least 90% attendance, a 3.0 weighted GPA, and 40 approved community-service hours logged during high school. Passport to Promise is a separate route for some students with lower GPAs and has its own steps and competitive selection. Check attendance, transcript, and service records with the school before applying.

The award depends on college type, time living in and attending New Haven schools, and Pell Grant. A public document lists amounts for the Class of 2024; do not treat those as a promise for 2027. The current aid package and individual agreement determine the award. New Haven Promise also provides advising, college preparation, FAFSA help, and career opportunities.

Complete the senior application in the New Haven Promise portal; it requests student identification and may require parent approval for minors. Use a personal email you will retain after graduation, save your login, and keep the confirmation. Students who already pledged should continue in their existing account. The published Class of 2027 close is December 23, 2026; support is listed at info@newhavenpromise.org and 203-776-6473.

Renewal requires FAFSA when possible, satisfactory college progress, at least 12 new credits each semester, and an annual MOU. The current checklist specifies a 2.0 GPA each semester and excludes withdrawals or repeats from new credits. Confirm that your college participates and which charges are covered; do not assume housing, books, or the full cost of attendance is included. Do not reuse prior-cohort award figures.
