About Costa Chica Mexican Restaurant

Oaxaca has a place at the Handy Street table

Félix and Estela Rojas opened Costa Chica in 1999, carrying the cooking of their native Oaxaca into New Brunswick. Their family restaurant at 314 Handy Street has a colorful dining room and a menu broad enough for an ordinary taco lunch or a longer meal built around regional specialties.

The tlayuda, Oaxacan pozole, Plato Marimba and molcajete are the dishes the family singles out in its neighborhood business profile. Chicken with Oaxacan mole provides another regional starting point. These are useful alternatives to ordering the same burrito at every Mexican restaurant: a large corn preparation, a bowl of broth or a shared hot-stone presentation changes the shape of the meal.

The taco section includes soft tacos, while crisp beef tacos come with cabbage, tomato, Parmesan, sour cream and peppers. Chicken flautas offer another fried-tortilla option. Tortas and carne asada burritos are well represented in takeout orders; the Cubana sandwich brings together several meats, including chicken, pork, beef, ham and sausage. It is a substantial choice for someone wanting one main item.

Breakfast includes huevos rancheros with fried tortillas, eggs, pico de gallo, cream, fresh cheese, rice and beans. Shrimp fajitas and seafood dishes widen the table for a group, while the pizzeria side of the menu remains part of the business’s identity.

Ordering and timing

Call 732-545-2255. The neighborhood listing has a 9 a.m. opening daily and late closing hours; Friday and Saturday closing times differ across listings. Delivery platforms use shorter service windows. Dine-in, pickup, delivery and catering are available. Dated customer accounts in 2026 praise presentation and portions; they describe delivery experiences rather than a visit by our writers.
