About Taquería La Herradura McAllen

Río Bravo roots, and three ways to wrap the filling

Gerardo Garcia opened La Herradura in 2010, at twenty-five, to bring the taco style of his hometown, Río Bravo in Tamaulipas, to the Valley. The McAllen branch is on Trenton Road. Its menu stays focused on a few useful choices: bistec, tripa or a mixture, with cilantro and grilled onion.

An order of five uses corn or flour tortillas. A separate order of four replaces the usual wrapper with cheese. Takochiles put bistec and mozzarella on jalapeños, with or without a tortilla. These differences make it possible to choose the construction before adding extras. The loaded potato uses butter, cheddar, Mexican sour cream, bistec and grilled onion; prepared charro beans add bistec and mozzarella. A sincronizada brings beans, white cheese and meat together, with lettuce, tomato and avocado alongside.
